Evidence basis: Company-reported Company-published assay, dated 4 October 2019. Crude quality varies from cargo to cargo; in any transaction the certificate of quality for the specific lifting governs, not a published assay.

Egina: quality and origin

Egina is a medium-gravity, low-sulphur deepwater crude produced about 150 km offshore through an FPSO with roughly 2.3 million barrels of storage.4 The TotalEnergies assay of October 2019 gives 27.3° API, 0.17% sulphur, a total acid number of 0.22 and a pour point of −21 °C.1

An unusually gasoil-rich barrel

Egina's assay shows 60.4% by weight in the 175–400 °C gasoil cut and less than 8% total naphtha.1 In our reading that makes it one of the most diesel-oriented crudes in West Africa, with correspondingly little gasoline-range material.

The sulphur figure public tables get wrong

The EIA table lists Egina's sulphur as 0.30%.5 The company assay says 0.17% and Argus's typical value is 0.165%,13 so we treat the higher figure as an error in transcription.

Cargo size and output

Egina trades in one-million-barrel cargoes rather than the 950,000 barrels standard for most Nigerian grades.3 Output has declined from the roughly 200 thousand b/d cited for 20206 to about 50 thousand b/d in the regulator's May 2026 table.7

How published figures compare

Publishers quote different qualities for Egina because assays are run years apart on a stream whose field mix changes, and because price-reporting agencies publish rounded "typical" values. We show the figures side by side rather than silently choosing one.
