Trade flows
Central Bank of Nigeria data attribute 10.27% of 2025 crude export earnings, about US$3.24 billion, to France — second only to Spain.1 The EIA estimates 128,000 barrels per day in 2024.2 One of the first two cargoes of the Nembe grade went to France in November 2023.3
The equity-producer link
TotalEnergies operates the Egina and Akpo deepwater developments and the Amenam field, and publishes its own assays for the Nigerian grades it markets.456 Its trading arm, TOTSA, also held NNPC term contracts in past cycles.7 A producer with equity barrels can place them in its own refining system or sell them on the open market — it was TotalEnergies that sold a Nigerian cargo to Indian Oil in a 2025 tender.8 This is what legitimate non-NNPC supply looks like: a licensed producer marketing its own entitlement. See how Nigerian crude is sold.
Limits of the evidence
We have not found public data identifying which French refineries process Nigerian crude, so none is named here.

Nigerian export statistics record the declared destination and are published by value; importer statistics record arrivals by volume. The two rarely match exactly. See the notes on the markets overview.
The qualities of the grades named on this page are in the Nigerian crude grade database. How such cargoes are actually contracted — by tender, under term contracts or through an established trader — is explained in how Nigerian crude oil is sold, and what a buyer should prepare before approaching any seller is in the international buyer centre.
